Zero-damage strategy in the limelight of AtomEco 2013
The plenary session on Nuclear Power Engineering: Zero-Damage Strategy opened the business program of the AtomEco 2013 Forum.
The plenary session was opened by the reports of S.V. Kirienko, the General Director of the State Atomic Energy Corporation ROSATOM; S.R. Levi, the Deputy Minister of the Russian Federation for Natural Resources and Environment; O.V. Krykov, the Director of Nuclear and Radiation Safety Directorate of the State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom; M. Ziman, the Head of Radiation Safety and Radioactive Waste Handling Department of the OECD’s Nuclear Energy Agency and other participants.
As it was noted by S.V. Kirienko, the General Director of the State Atomic Energy Corporation ROSATOM, “we need to focus our efforts to work out technologies of a new generation, develop natural safety systems, ensure safety of the existing and perspective nuclear facilities. These tasks can only be achieved in the scope of open partnership with public environmental organizations. Social acceptability is a matter of critical importance. Lack of it can become an issue, if we fail to pay proper attention to this matter.”
This year the plenary session is attended by the representatives of governmental bodies, top managers of nuclear companies, Russian and foreign environment protection agencies.
Matters of environmental safety were deliberately offered for a wide and transparent public discussion with the involvement, among others, of the experts representing environment protection agencies.
